Bad10,
Thanks again for the information. Work is currently getting in the way of my hobbie so not much time for the car. Don't go out of your way I was hoping you had some pictures but a sample would be perfect. You had mentioned that you need a silver base is that a color base or just sealer? Sorry if this is a dumb question but this is the first time trying body work and paint. Also on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is this color to paint with 5 being normal.

Thanks Vince

Candies are tough to paint and expensive, base clears are not much tougher than solids to paint but not near as tough as candies. I would go with a base clear. Go down to the local paint shop and look through the books. I use DuPont paint and have a ton of chips that might fit your needs. Look at a 91 color called brilliant red B8947 DuPont code, then go from there, the 89 means its an actual 89 color. There are also some tri coats that are easier to paint than candies that will get a close candy look, but be prepare to pay. The factory uses tri coats on some models.

Hello,
I am building a 72 race car and need to pick a color. The wife wants candy apple red but this is my first attempt at painting and everyone says it to hard to paint. Anybody know a paint code for a bacse clear coat thats close to a candy apple red or am I just screwed?
