I'm in the process of getting my car ready to paint. I pulled the trunk weather strip out and discovered slight rust through at the bottom near the latch. I have two 1/4 wide, 2 inch long "holes"

What are some suggestions about repair? Is this a case for the POR 5 putty?

Thanks

I'd get it MIG welded, then use a Dremel to grind it smooth and paint.

Any good exhaust shop should be able to do the welding for under $20.. it's literally a 5 minute welding job.

Be sure to have all the rust and paint cleaned off prior to welding.

I had lots of surface rust in that area of my 67 GTO. I bought a $60 mini sand blaster and used that to blast around there. That little blaster proved to be invaluable to me because I sandblasted all of the jams and window channels with it. It took a while (a few days involving a few hours after work), but I did it in my driveway and it didnt make a huge mess (compared to a large blaster). I also had to weld some holes in that area of mine was well, and to repair the "hacked in" quarter panel replacement, circa 1969 style. -Jesse

Cut it out and weld it. Only real way to fix it. I just did this last week to my channel. Dont try the putty approach etc, only one real way to do it IMO. Cut out the cancer and make a small patch for it and weld it in.
