Hello gang,
After playing with turbocharged fox body Mustangs and GN's, my GTO feels a little weak. I'm trying to figure out how practical it would be to blow-through turbo my 68 400. I would plan on putting out about 350-500 rear wheel horse power. I want it to run on pump gas but alcohol injection is an option. I would use stock WT cam and 6X 101 cc heads to lower compression with stock M-20 trans. How will do Pontiacs (mostly stock) hold up to boost? Head gaskets? Pistons (cast?).... Any thoughts? Thank You |

With Rob's Cometic head gaskets and a cast iron
head you should be fine for any head gasket sealing. Travis Quinlin recently told me that Wayne Young and Travis had run the gaskets to 40 lb boost on a good Ford engine so the basic design should be good. There are several people here recently working with blow-thru systems. Original HO Pontiac Dude, Mark at BOP Engineering Paul Spotts and others. Tell us more about your plans. Tom V.

I've been running my 462ci Pontiac on 7-10PSI of boost for almost two years now without any problems whatsoever. I can run 32 degrees of total timing on 110 octane fuel or I can use my alcohol injection system and run 92 octane pump gas with the timing set back to 25 degrees. The performance drops about 2 tenths on the pump gas.
The only "trick" part in the motor is the TRW pistons. I'm using 6x-8 heads with a 230/230 .480/.480 Comp Cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, 750 Holley DP, 3.42 gears. Car went 11.80@112 on 7PSI of boost. Normal 1/4 times before the Turbocharger were in the mid 13 second range.

"Tom can I drop my car off at your house for some twin turbos and just call me when its done okay" My neighborhood frowns on car repairs, but if you have the money I am sure McLaren Racing can make a space for your car to have ANYTHING YOU WANT put on it (in a first class manner)! All kidding aside they do a LOT of fabrication work for me on Ford projects and one of their best fabricator/welders is a pontiac guy (Rich Cole). How fast you want to go there Lil' Jack? LOL! Tom V.

Faster then PDude, ooops already am, faster then Ray, I will be at Norwalk.
8.50s sound like a realistic goal for this year, with some more chassis tuning and a little more nitrous. I already have it down to a 1.31 60 foot and a 9.54 @ 140.5 on the motor. Last time out I ran three 54 in a row, but the new led tree doesn't like me too much. I just think twin turbos are cool and would look neat. |

455bird,
What kind of turbo setup are you running in your 455? I'm just curious as my motor, heads & cam are very similar to yours & I've been entertaining different possibilities for a future turbo project. Thanks, Tim |

But what you haven't accomplished with 11.5 slicks and ladder bars with a 500 cu.in. plus engine, I have accomplished with D.O.T. radial tires and stock suspension............ and 100 lbs heavier too. Bwahahahahahaha But keep trying Wheelie Boy. Sooner or later you will get there. You have all of 2004 to try. |

I thought you would like that, sure you have my faster time slip 100 #'s? the scale at E-town said 3488#. Yes your on drag radials and a "stock type" suspension, but your the one with24 cubes on me and a more spray. And if she would have stayed on the ground it would have been a nice 70 pass, but as you say coulda, woulda, shoulda we shall see this year
