Which would be a better choice? I have the option of trading my 700 for a 4L60E both of which are built for up to 600 ftlb torque. I know i need a stand alone computer, but i like the idea of being able to program my shift points instead of dealing with the 700 in regards to problems with it wanting to shift too early manually. I understand that you can do some valve body changes and something else to make the 700 shift at higher rpms manually. Any thoughts?

The 4L tranny is stronger. The stand alone computer is nice. However, if your motor revs really quick, as in supercharger or nitrous use, the computer has a hard time keeping up. It can be delt with though.

I'm like heaven, everybody wanna get to me.........

My 4L60E held up great in stock trim all the way down to 11.3's. My computer logging started to show the 1-2 shift slipping so I had 1 $1,100 race build-up done to it. I left everything computer controlled except for installing a vacuum modulator.

If you have a choice, I'd go with the new 4L65E from GM performance parts. It comes stock with about a 1/3 of the stuff I did in my race build-up.

Fel Pro(now FAST) has a stand alone computer for these. Can program all kinds of things.

Are there any cheaper piggy back for the factory ones in my 97 Chevy truck? The HyperTech is pretty worthles on it for shifts.

the 700r4 and the 4l60e are the same transmission but 4l60e is electronically controlled. The 4l80e transmission is the tough beast that everybody wants. The 4l80e is basically an OD TH400 but it also is electronically controlled. These units are expensive. I have heard of $800 for just a core.

There are very little differences between the 87-92 700/4L60's and the 4L60E aside from the valvebody. For all practical purposes they use the same internals. The pre-87 700's are full of "soft" parts and should be avoided or upgraded for serious high performance use......Cliff

I have decided to stick with the 700R4 but going to upgrade to a Precision Industries 3 or 5 disc converter. I dont want to chance a ballooning cover and take out my crank. Also I am pulling the trans anyway to install longer dowel pins which I should have done before due to the adaptor plate.

Damn good choice on converter. The clutch(es) give you room to gear up if needed.
