Hey everyone! I am new here and I am building my first pontiac motor! its a 74 400 w/6x-8 heads w/ scrrew in studs and a summit 2801 cam. I have the typical qustion. I am not sure if i need to convert to the adjustable valvetrain and what exactly does that mean???? at what lift do you need to do the rocker swap??? oh yeah, just to let you know this is going into an 1986 fiero gt. its mating to a th425 sat night special stall and 3.23's also does anyone have any info and speedpro 2227 pistons!!! they were given to me and the are to old to find specs! I already tried speed pro!!! Thank for any advice in these matters! KIller sight you have here!!!

oh yeah heads are used and i milled them .015. I am not sure if they were milled before. I am also using crane 840 springs! Installed height is .055 higher than spec. so i will be using a .060 shim.

Yes you will need to convert to adjustable rockers. Do not reuse the stock rocker nuts, They will not hold the adjustment,they are meant for one time use only. Order a set of polylocks from Summit. Polylocks allow you to set the valve lash then lock the setting with an allen set screw in the center. This is what is refered to as an adjustable valve train. to set valve lash with polylocks turn down the outter nut wntill the clicking stops then about 1/2 more turn and tighten down the allen set screw. This topic has been discussed before do a search for more info.

All you need is a set of Crane Kool Nuts to make it adjustable. We sell them at Summit.
