I have a 72 firebird with a brute 455 about 550 hp and I need some tire and wheel width rec. this thing just blows the 275 60 15 off the car even with split mono leaf spring and caltracs.
What size wheel and tire combo will correct this problem on the street I need traction!! I can run up to a 12 inch rim on the car. I ave been considering the m&h racemaster muscle car drag dot tire with a 13.2 tread width or is this overkill? What are your opinions on a tire wheel combo? |

Just get you another set of 8" rims and get some M/T Street et's, the new ones are supposed to be really nice.
If you dont wana go with those get some Nitto or BFG Drag radials. OR go to the local dirt track racer and get some used dirt track tires and burn the piss outa them, they avtually hook pretty good at the track. but for the street only i would go with the BFG OR Nitto's, PREFERABLY THE BFG's Mike |

72, This can be a very easy solve or a real bitch. You need to decide primarly how your going to use this car & what your willing to sacrifice, in streetabilty that is. Ultimate cure IMHO is 15x10s with ET Drags 29.5x10.5-15W I know these will work & fit from my own experinces. They will rub ever so slightly around the inside on front in some corners,BTW this is with 5.5 backspace wheels & 1/4 spacer.

clearence issues are no problem as my car has springs arced to be 2" over stock height and I was thinking of running a 3.5 inch offset to assure inside clearence. Although I may lower the car 1 inch in the rear.

If you run a 3.5 inch back space you are going to look.........terrible. The tire/rim combo will stick outside of the body and in my opinion look like poo. Look at a 4.5 to5 inch back space. The rim/tire that Brian runs looks great and the car runs a tick over 10 seconds. To do install his combo you have to do some work to the front half of the inner fenderwell and the front lip and the rear lip. Not a bid deal and it works.

Yea, that is pretty much how I feel about the tires sticking out of the fenderwell it does look like crap I was only considering the 3.5 inch backspace wheel due to a good deal on some wheels. If a ten inch tread slick will put the power to the ground then that is what I will use on a ten inch wheel.
Anyone else have some opinions? Also I had made another post that is similar one after another because the other did not show as a new thread until much later so I thought it had got lost somehow. |
