Found a 79 T/A that has been wrecked pretty hard in the front and is probably only good for parts. It has the L72 400 with the Borg Warner 4-speed. Supposedly both the motor and trans are good. Also has 4 wheel disks and 3.42 limited slip rear end. It looks very complete and the interior is in very good condition, so there are a lot of good parts, but most of the body is shot. Any idea what it's worth? I'm thinking of purchasing it for parts.
Thanks, Jeff |

Sorry, meant W72.
Plan on using the disk rear in my 72 if it will work, but will shoot you an e-mail if I change my mind. |

It is pretty much down to what it is worth to you! If you have a good bodyshell available, it could be a great project.

Cotton,
I live in Clarksville. I would probably be interested in some parts if you pick it up. What color is the interior? I have a '79 also and could use various things. My e-mail is in my profile. Thanks, Joe

I just bought it, but won't pick it up until Monday. The exterior is brown and the interior is black. I'm going to transfer a lot of the parts to my 72, but I think there will still be plenty of good stuff left.
Let me know what your looking for and I look for it next week. Thanks, Jeff |

okay, I bought the car last week and finally brought it home Tuesday night. I'll try and take pictures tonight and post them. It was hit in the front and I'm actually toying with the idea of fixing it and using it as a driver. Going to pull the front sheet metal off this weekend and try to get it running.

If you decide to part it I'd like to drive down and take a look at it, probably after the holidays. Keep us posted!

we'll do. if I can ever get home before dark I'll take some pictures.
I'm going to try and finish pulling the front sheet metal Friday, then will try and start it. If I can get it running and it drives decent I'll probably restore it. I hate to part out a good car, plus I'd like to try my hand at a little bodywork. I know where a few decent parts cars are though. They don't have much for drivetrain, but have some good body and interior parts. They are in a backwoods salvage yard in Fairview, TN. |

here is a picture. I got it running yesterday and drove it up and down the driveway....it feels pretty strong. I ran the numbers on the motor and it looks like it's a 74 400, so it's not original. I think I'm going to go ahead and restore it if I can find a decent front cap for cheap.
The front subframe is pretty tweaked, so I'm not sure if it will work or not.....we'll see. Looks like the only rust is the right rear floor and quarter. |

For the record, the original axle ratio in 79 should have been a 3.23 with the W72 engine.

The 78s with the 4-speed were the ones with 3.42 and it looks like all the 79s had 3.23. I need to check the numbers on mine to make sure it's the original axle anyway, but it definitely has the disk brakes and is limited slip. So do you guys think that subframe can be straightened? |
