My maintenance free Delco battery died in my 69 GTO this weekend. I like the look of the R59 repo battery but I don't know how well they work. Anyone have any experience with repo batteries? Thanks, Jimmy

I bought one and really liked the way it looks. However, I was having trouble with cranking the motor when the engine was hot with the R59. I went back to a battery with a high cranking amp and the hot starting problem went away. I'm going to add an extra ground an see if I could use the R59 again. Also, I was thinking of trying the R59 fake box over a new battery. Hope this helps. Dave

Later this year, I heard June, there will be a new R-59 reproduction battery available, which will be externally identical, but its a modern sealed lead acid. I'm waiting for that. Seen to many people have problems with the current repros. Look here.http://www.turbostart.com/racinginfo.pdf
Ccass, are you going to be carrying these? You might want to bring a pallet to the GTO NAT's or Norwalk.

Very interesting on the high performance battery. I sure like the OEM look from that era. It would be nice to have new style interals too. Thanks guys!

I had the same problem with a repro R-59, it didn't hike to start my car hot. I replaced it with the best black case battery they had and put a fake R-59 battery top on top of it. It starts my GTO every time and nobody has noticed that it's a battery topper.

I used the battery topper with a delco 1000cc amp battery.
You really have to look at it to tell it's a fake. If I was trying to fool someone, I could doctor it up some more. |

Received my battery, dropped it in and it fired right up. Looks great.

$189 + shipping. You've got to want the original look to pay that price.
