Help... Does anyone know where I can get one of these washers. It is clipped with a "C" clip inside of the walnut shift knob, and keeps the shift knob from spinning around on its shaft. It is basically a round washer, but with a little catch sticking to the inside to fit in a groove, once broken, your shift knob spins freely on the shaft. I have two shifters, and both washers are broken. Any help would be great..Thanks!

Mine spins too, didn't know the washer was missing. I'd like to get one too. Does anyone have a pic?

Hey Wally.. I tried to get mine out to get a pic for you, but cant find my "c" clip remover. If you pry (gently on each side with a screw driver to lift off your button, insert and turn the screw driver) there is a "c" clip. The special washer sits directly under this clip. I can see my washer, and it is missing a chunk of it. There is also a "c" clip under the knob, which I think you have to remove also to get the knob off. It seems this would be a common problem, and surely we dont have to custom make one... Good luck, if i run across a picture, I'll shoot you one... George

My setup (from the base up) has a c-clip, then the knob, then a special steel washer, the another c-clip, then the button. The special washer keys onto the shaft of the shifter and into a roll pin pressed into the knob.

The one in the picture will go back on my 1969 TA (Whenver I manage to hide enough money from my wife to get the car painted). Otherwise I'd give it to you. I'll keep a look out for another. According to my assembly manual, the washer part number is 9797530. The GM parts system may still have it available as the same style floor shifter was used up to 1982.

Thanks for the information.. I understand about hiding $$$ from the wife.. they just dont understand sometime.. funny how they fully understood while you were dating them...haha. I'll check with the dealers and parts suppliers to see if their still available.. Thanks again!

That looks like a tough part to find ! Can you take a regular washer and your dremel tool with a carbide tip and fabricate one?

You could try and dremel a washer up, but it's pretty difficult without an original to go by. I took a couple of plain washers to a guy who is a machinist to have some made. I was worried about the thickness as well as the other issues. He gave me back the washers and had them CNC'd from scratch. Still thanking him on that. The '71-up knobs had the tabs built into them, no washer needed (read '69-70 only).
