Day i get back from Iraq, first time with my new 68 GTO... And it breaks on me. First it wouldnt turn over. So i got a new battery, and cables. Seemed good. Took it for a joy ride.. and all the sudden.. i cant shift. It wont go into gear.. AT ALL. I turn the car off. I can put it into gear. But i cant start it. Then i take it out of gear.. and after some coaxing.. it starts. Still cant get it into gear. I turn it off... And now it wont start. Any suggestions? The alternator and the starter both tested good at napa. I just want to drive it for a couple weeks

It sounds like your clutch wont disengage.

W48:
IF the clutch won't Relaese, adjustment is the first easy attempt to the cure. the threaded rod, runs from a block @ bottom of "Z" bar (Bellcrank), to the clutch bearing release arm that sticks out of Bell Housing.there is a 1/4" squared area near the release arm, (the only reason I own a 4" adjustable Wrench) !!! Turn that rod Counter-Clockwise,(Loosen-direction), a few threads at a time. Start the car & test, adjust & testThis may take a couple of tries!!! If you see a nut somewhere along the threaded rod,it is a Locknut, needs to go tight up to adjustment block when you"re done. Hint: exh. pipes make big OOoowwee on ForeArms....Let pipes cool,Between tests!!!

....Also a very distinct chance that the rod has dropped off of the release arm altogether. It could be just swinging free.

don't know how long your car was sitting, but maybe the clutch disk is frozen on the input shaft and not releasing completely.

Sgtgto: Dose your Goat have and inspection cover for the clutch. Have some push clutch in a see if it relases from flywheel. One other problem you could have inherieted now is your Muncie is hung between two gears since you had difficulties shifting it. Been a long time for a four speed for me but I think you have to pry/push the linkage ( from under car) some to see if it pop free and go into neutral position. Maybe some four speed people can shed some light on that. Good luck. You might just have to pull the clutch and replace disc.

I go to school in Grand Rapids, but unfortunately I have no idea what your problem could be. But I guess if you need an assistant, and have free beer.

When my Muncie wouldn't shift, I just had to realign the shifter rods and tighten them back down..that doesn't help out with your starting issue, but maybe it's 2 issues.

Well i found out what was wrong! I adjusted the nuts on the rod that engages the release arm... and started it.. and it still wouldnt shift. I crawl back under the car and look up at the clutch while my dad is pressing down on the pedal... and my clutch is cracked in half! I couldnt see it due to the orientation when i looked earlier. I guess that'll do it! Now what kind of clutch to get???

just this last friday night my super t-10 once it warmed up i could not get it into first gear at a complete stop. if i tried the other gears it wouildnt go in either at a full stop. reverse was impossible as it just ginded the gears bad and i could tell the disc was spinning pretty fast from the noise. if the car was rolling even just a little bit it would go into first fine but not from a deads stop. if i turned the car off it would go in all the gears fine, if the car was running forget it. it shifts into all the gears fine when the tranny is cold and not fully warmed up. i went under and brought up the slack more in the rod so it would release more fully but i havnt had a chance to drive it yet fully warmed up. i thought my pressure plate had lossened up on the flywheel again but it was still tight. im hoping my adjustment for some reason just slacked up and its not a disc problem.
