Ok, will someone please explain to me why the DCI head is almost $6,000 which is 3 times more then KRE's head. Both are made out of the same Aluminumm both have a lot of R & D behind them, both are Pontiac heads. We aren't talking $1,000 more but.......$4,000 more?

Did I miss something? Have we even seen an engine built and dyno'd with these heads? If there was one, what were the results? Dont misunderstand, this isnt negativity, just a request for data. Hard information has definitely been lacking on these parts. Absolutely no info on the website. Thats a whole lotta green to shell out blind.

its must be marketing, make them a mystery, make them nearly unobtainable and keep the price skyhigh LOL
they go on the dyno in a couple months for all the world to see. DCI heads tuned by Dale Eicke of prostock fame. 410ci the PHR smallblock shootout. I hope they make a good showing among the 7 Pontiac entries. they will have to show significant power over the independent entries with home ported KREs and Eheads. several thousand dollars of significant power

I remember when the S.C. heads became available. Larry didn't have cars running those heads before they hit the market. He stated #'s and people bought them. Even and especially knowing the past issues his previous heads had. And the issues they even come with and knowing that they will need to be fixed or repaired after they were purchased.
So what's the difference. Between then and now? Except that the DCI heads are being bad mouthed without anyone even using them. I just don't understand? Pricy....Yes and Big time. Especailly since a 460 Ford head produced by Trick Flow is $2100.00 complete and flows out of the box over 400 cfm. And any BBC head can be purchased for the same price flowing over 375 out of the box. Complete |

George - KRE doesn't have a 400-cfm head, do they? I'm sure their billets are somewhere in that neighborhood, but I don't think you want to know the price on their custom billets.
Ken - the difference between then and now is, NOW there is already a proven head available flowing the same figures that DCI claims. When Larry introduced the S.C. there wasn't another out to compare it to...so racers bought them, in a sense "sight unseen". Time has passed since and the S.C. head has proven its worth. DCI is going to have an uphill battle selling this head UNLESS they can first prove its worth, because EVERY potential buyer is going to compare it to the S.C. head. This is why it would behoove DCI to donate a set of these heads for R&D to a racer in exchange for promotional interests.

Wade, I wondered about that, because I didnt think there was any current availability.
On the other hand, in the new PHR mag, the blurb for Eicke, Wood & Johnson, makes mention of Dons new 400 heads and quotes Johnson? " ---the new DCI Motorsports cylinder heads will be maximized for performance in the target rpm band----" While I could find no definitive sentence clearly stating the new heads will be on the dyno, it very much sounds that way.

If the head performs on par with the S.C. head, they're heroes. If it fails, they can say their intention was never to go head to head with the S.C. head. Only problem is, with a projected price higher than the S.C. head, they'll be shooting themselves in the foot if it doesn't produce "par" numbers. "Target RPM band".....indeed.

Is that $7,500.00 for complete heads and an intake because that wouldn't be a bad price! But if that is for bare heads, then whooaa!!!

JC.
I think the letter said the first production run was limited to 25 pairs of heads...other than that it wasall the info we have heard before about them flowing 400 cfm right out of the box. They are also offering the IA2 block for 2995.00 I threw the letter away b/c it took them to long to become available so I had found another set of heads with comparable numbers.

Let me clear something up when I asked why the DCI head was $4,000 more then KRE'S head I was not knocking the DCI head. In fact if I already hadn't bought a set of Superchiefs I might have been one of the first to order a set from DCI (can't afford both). But I still don't understand why they are $4,000 more.........$1,500-2,000 more maybe. They are both aluminum Pontiac heads, they both have had an awful lot of trying & testing done on them. I give.

George, if you're comparing the DCI head (which sounds like it will be a race head for the same market as the Wenzler S.C.) to that of KRE's new aluminum d-port head.....apples and oranges. KRE, to my knowledge, doesn't offer an "off the shelf" 400-cfm head, in any form. Now if you'd like a set of their custom billets, like Mellot has on his car, I'm sure they're more than the S.C. or the DCI head.

Brian,
Your missing my point. I understand that the DCI is a race head and KRE's head is a street & strip head, my point is both heads are made the same way and are made out of Aluminum. OK let me try this ......2 pairs of tennis shoes , one pair is a running shoe and the other a cross training shoe. Both are made out of the same material and each is special for it's own application...they should be priced about the same (or some where in the same ball park), get the picture. |

Brian,
Lets try this.......2 Roller camshafts, one is for the street and the other is for the strip. Now the only difference is their lift and duration. Both are made of the same material and both made for a Pontiac, so they should be priced pretty close together(or in the same zip code). How is that? |

George,
Take 2 cars...a Cadillac and a Saturn. Both are made from steel, glass, plastic, rubber, etc. Both are built on assembly lines. Both will get you from point A to point B. Why is the Cadillac 20 to 30 thousand dollars more than the Saturn? Do you get the picture? Both the KRE and the Edelbrock heads will see (and for the E-heads, have seen) a larger market than the S.C. or DCI heads will see (or have seen). The higher the number of units sold, the lower the price. Also, like the Cadillac differs from the Saturn, so too do the design of the DCI and S.C. heads differ from KRE or E-heads. There is your price difference.
