I was bidding on this NOS shift knob before prices got real crazy. Who would pay this?

Its like I ve said before, some things yes are naturally expensive but they ve always been that way. Other things people are just paying way too much. Do I blame the seller, course not I blame people who are so desparate to get a piece they just blindly keep bidding and bidding. Not just car parts either, take a look at some of the Gamecube or Xbox prices.. brand new one in the stores here in canada is 99 bucks for a gamecube... people are paying upwards of 80 or 90 bucks for used stuff that may or may not work and without a warranty.. People have lost their minds.

That is highly illegal to bid on your own auctions. Or have someone boost the bids too.

Pretty easy to tell if the same bidder shows up in all his bidding, gets it to a high bid and never wins anything from him especially if the bidder is bidding on wildly different car parts or years.
As for illegal yep bigtime but Ebay hardly ever does anything unless the person admits it, which isn t likely |

Probably not the place to say this, but I have just about had it with ebay myself. I have bought several parts for my 77 trans Am resto modified project in the last few months. I rate it at about a 25% success rate, and frankly, those 'good' parts were very expensive. The other 75% range from 'Unsatisfactory' to 'Daylight Robbery'. Included in that are the blatant lies from Mr. Thogmartin from Joplin MO who will be hearing from my attorney. And E.D.Emerson in California "Oops! you mean those seats are not leather?"
From now on I want to see the used junk - sorry - the parts, before I buy. Otherwise it has to be new or repro from a reputable source. |

I hear you.. although I can say for most part, I ve gotten some real nice deals.. like a custom spoiler for my 80 bird.. and several really great carbs for next to nothing. But it sure can be a hit and miss

An other way to check, is to look at other items for sale by this seller , then look at the bid histories, if the same name keeps coming up, you might start suspecting. To double check on them look at their buying/selling history. If the same name keeps popping up , and you keep bidding , Well here's your sign. Had this happen when I was looking for a digital camera, wrote a note to the seller and Ebay her auctions where gone .probably under a differant name. she is still in business

I would agree with all the previous coments. The last bid was placed in the last three seconds of the auction, so It seems somewhat legit, but who knows? I can see some parts bringing big $$. But those knobs are not that rare. My 79 T/A has 41K miles on it & the knob looks NOS. I think there are more around that are the same. Maybe my car just went up in value by $500
