I just put new valve covers with new cork gaskets 5 months ago yet I see a light stream of oil towards the back of heads eventually running down on the exhaust manifolds. Any suggestions? Its a 65 389 on a 67 gto

Order the 5/16 thick valve cover gaskets from Indian Adventures Racing. I put them on my car with a small bead of RTV Black Ultra Permatex on each side and haven't leaked a drop since! I always order 2 pair since you are paying the shipping anyway. I never could get a regular set of cork gaskets to not leak. At least not for long!

Try it again, but this time use Fel-Pro rubber gaskets (#VS50005R). Lightly silicone the gaskets to the v-covers and grease the gasket to head surface. I have reused the same rubber gaskets without leaks in my 455 and 400 for more than 4 years.

You've probably over tightened at some time trying to fix. Take cover off and hold it up and look down the sealing flange. it's probably bent. You need to rebend it with light hammer taps all the way around until the flange is straight at the gasket mating surface. Pay attention to the holes, they are probably bent inwards too. Clean until you can eat off the mating surfaces. I use the perma-seal gaskets, they have sealing stuff on the mating surface already. Then go with studs with nuts that have a washer face. No more than 15 ft. lbs. This fixed mine Good Luck!

Ditto what Wheelspin says. i ran Felpro rubber gaskets glued to valve covers and adjusted my valves about once a month for a couple of years and never had to replace gaskets.

I ran into the same thing on my 71 GT-37. The cork gaskets are usually 3 pieces glued together. The seams are about an inch from the end of the gasket and will pull apart about an 1/8 of an inch (due to the heat I believe).I'm using a rubber gasket now and have not had any problems.

Yes. Some intake/valve cover combos need to have the lip of the cover ground as the intake ports keep the valve cover from drawing tight, even with the thicker Felpro Performance VC gaskets.
Some have recessed and some do not.
I've used the Felpro Hi-Perf gaskets for 15+ years without issues.
