I purchased an Auto Meter Tachometer for my 67 GTO and the wiring that comes with the Tach is 20 ga. wire. I want to use tap splices to connect to the 12 volt switched power and lighting. What size wire is the existing dash wiring 14-16 or 18 ga.Need to know so I can get the correct size splicers.
Thanks

the blue 14-16ga crimp-style butt splicers can be used with anything down to 20ga with no problems as long as they're crimped evenly. the smaller red 18-20ga butt connectors will accept a 16ga wire easily, and a 14ga wire if you "lose" a strand or two. None of those circuits see much current, so 16ga should be more than adequate and will work with whatever size butt connector is handy.
as far as whar's "correct" I haven't a clue. 1981 Trans Am, 462ci/4sp 1995 Formula 1963 Bonnie (for sale) |

Bill, I invested in a good soldering gun, some good 3-M heavy tape and some no lox corrosion inhibitor, an electrical supply house will have the tape and nolox.
That way theres no bad connections. |
