Hello , I just bought a 71 T-37 with the 350 2 barrell carb , but the motor is froze and I have a chance to buy a 428 motor fairly cheap and I was wondering how much trouble itwould be to interchange these motors , like will I need a different tranny or motor mounts or what. I am trying to figure out what would be best , or if I just should rebuild the 350. If anybody has any suggestions or thoughts it would be greatly appreciated. I am new to this site for about the last 2 weeks and I really like it . Thanks, Jeff

The 428 will bolt right in using your current engine mounts, transmission, exhaust and accessories. There may be a bolt hole missing on the front of the cylinder heads for accessory mounting but this is not a big problem. Pontiac engines are all the same size externally (except the 265/301 economy engines).

Forget about that 350, you now have a 428.

Yeah it is pretty straight forward, but if you can get the brackets and accessories along with the 428 it would help. That missing bolt hole on the head is where the 71 up alt. and ps pump pivot bolt goes into, 70 and older brackets and pulleys and ps pump would make the swap much easier.

Another detail: Be sure to use the timing cover, water pump and crank damper/balancer from the '71 350 on your 428 to make sure the accessories bolt up and line up properly.

428s were built only from '67 through '69 and there were several different timing covers, balancers and water pumps used during those years that won't match up with your '71 stuff.
