Has anybody out there ever heard of a special high performance 455 built for the IROC racing series? From what I've been told, in order for GM to enter one of these engines in its IROC race cars for 1976, 300 engines had to be produced in street cars. I tested one the other day that has 80 lbs. of oil pressure and had incredible power off the line even with 2.73:1 rear gears. Mind you, it is a 4 spd car, however stock in '76, they were 200 hp. This engine is closer to 400 hp.
Does anybody have any info. on this? Was there such an engine produced? I've decoded the car's VIN#, and it shows it as being a regular 455 4 spd. car. However, it does not behave like one. |
