My dad has often talked of converting his '69 LeMans from manual to power brakes. I was thinking the parts would make a good Father's Day present. My question is, where do I get a power booster? Are they interchangable between years/models? NAPA online lists a version for disc/drum, but my dad has drum/drum. Are they the same?

can be purchased at the local parts store as well. Check what the core charge will be since you do not have one to give them back. Can fix you up with a used one, but better buying a rebuilt one. Any A body from 68-72 will mount. need new master cylinder as well typically. and connection to carb\ intake for vacuum.

Thanks. Which begs the question - will his carb have a vacuum port for this, or can I go right to the intake manifold as a source?

Boosters are the same for disc or drum. It's the master cylinder that will need to be changed. Don't forget about the brake lines to the master cylinder too!

I'd recommend getting a new reproductions instead of one from a parts store if underhood appearance is important to your dad. I bought one from a parts store a few months ago and it looked horrible. It was sprayed cast iron grey and had rust pits all over it. Granted, a reproduction will run you at least $100 more than a part store booster but you get what you pay for.

As for suppliers, lots of places have them. Try Performance Years, Ames or Master Power Brakes. I bought mine from Classic Performance Products, it's a nice piece.

Best deal for the conversion kits is Master Power Brakes - www.mpbrakes.com. I got the whole set up for under $700 delivered and the quality is great - what a difference power brakes made!

try reading the question, he only needs to go from manual to power, not to discs. Do what I said.

carb at back could have the vacuum port where auto trans connects to.
