What is everyone using around the heater core pipes, the area surrounding them on the firewall. Also I got the heater core from AutoZone (life time warranty) which is 10-3/4" X 6" X 2".
The original measures 10-3/4" X 6-1/4" X 2-1/2".
What are you all using to take up the gap in the depth and height difference?

I went to HomeDepot last night and purchased some "Fingertop rope caulk indoor outdoor made by Frost King. It is what I think I scraped off the inside of the heater core housing that was under the orginal heater core. It should work great for under the heater core.
I contacted a pipe insulation manufacter this am and found out that the standard dense insulation is only good to 200 deg. max. and constant 180 deg. max. which is ASTM E 84 w/ 25/50 rating. I did how ever did get part numbers for a dense inulation for 1" and 2" Pipe OD. w/ thicknees of 1/2", 3/4" & 1" which is good to 350 deg. I then contacted a New Orleans distributor and was told the insulation is not stocked and is sold in 6 foot lengths and boxes of 72 feet. I only need a foot or two max. The standard pipe insulation I mention above is $4.99 / 6ft. If I get, say one 6 ft. piece that will wrap around 1" pipe 1/2" to 3/4" thick I can cut it and shape it to fit the old piece I took off. I the distributor in New Orleans and are researching the pipe insulation they have stock and see what the temp rating and exposure time is good to. In the mean time maybe some other ole' Pontiac bud can help us out. The reason I want it right is because "I ONLY WANT TO DO THIS ONCE" !!!!

I just used the pipe insulation that is sold at home depot, I cut and shaped it as close to original as I could and it is holding up fine and looks a lot better than the old crusty original.
