Good link, but havent really checked its accuracy: http://www.teufert.net/pontiac/page2.htm

The info for all of my 68 wagon matches. The page suggests that this engine was in a Tempest with an auto trans and 4 bbl carb. The 16 heads are non ram air big valve with screw in studs (casting # 9791216 part # 9790118). Good page to bookmark!

I have that same engine and heads that I am putting into my 71 LeMans. The YS is a 1968 400 block and the #16 Heads are high compression large valve heads are great as long as you understand what CR you want when you are done with the build. With the #16 heads and my 400 bored 0.030" over and 4 relief pistons I have about 10:1 CR, which is on the edge of being able to run on pump gas. Many people quote the edge is more like 9.5:1, but I know some people that run my same CR on pump gas and they are quite happy with their engines performance. When you do the heads you could have the machinist reduce the compression by increasing the head volume or dishing the pistons. I have not installed my engine yet because I am in the middle of a frame-off now.

skipp65,

Just to be on the look out, make sure you check the castin date code on the heads to clarify them as being 68 or 69 #16 heads, Pontiac also made a set of #16 heads in 1970 that were small valve with pressed in studs. Not saying they are the 1970 heads but it is worth the look.

Just something to look for,
Mark
