ok lets see if anyone can help me out. I have a 1974 pontiac 455 with stock 4x heads. I am soon going to be doing a "performance" rebuild on the motor using edebrock performer RPM parts. My dillema s that the aluminum heads cost more than the rest of the parts for the rebuild combined. Now please understand that I am a college student so funds are always low...lol. Now my question is : can I use stock 400 4x heads with the 98 cc chambers to replace my 114cc 4x heads? Now im not sure as to wheteher A. the 400 heads will fit my 455 or B. how much performance I can expect to gain from this swap. Im looking to get somewhere around 400 horsepower out of this motor. thanks all!

Hey 74, college student here also, so i understand your money problems. As for your question, yes you can use a 400 head on a 455, and I would say that you would want to use the 98cc head over a 114 head if you want to do a performance rebuild. Even with the extra cubes of a 455, 114cc's is going to leave you with a pretty low compression ratio. However, it all depends how much performance you are trying to make. So my second bit of advice is to repost and let the board know exactly what kind of power you want and what your setup will be, then one of the experts here will be able to give you all of the advice that you need to get your 455 where you want it.

Yeah I figured d go with the 400's 4x heads. Like I say im lookin for around 400 horsepower out of the 455...which Im guessing is reasonable with 98cc heads a stout cam and some other performance mods!
