I have an original 455 HO engine out of a '71 Trans Am with Auto & A/C. The motor is complete with carb, intake, heads, exh. manifolds, etc. It needs to be rebuilt as it has been sitting in my shed for years. What is this engine worth parted out or whole?

Having bought and sold a bunch of HO stuff in the past. I would say $2500-3000.

Boy those motors are going up! In 1983, I put an ad in the back of Hot Rod Magazine for a complete 455 HO engine - got about 7 replies, and bought a complete engine out of a 1971 Judge, carb to pan including intake and exhaust manifolds (even the flanges), from a very nice gentleman in Bowling Green, Kentucky for $500! It had a collapsed piston but only 29,000 miles and was very rebuildable. I disassembled it for storage, and then about 1988, I foolishly sold it for $1,800 Canadian. Ouch. Tried to find one a couple of years ago to replace it - there was nothing even close to a complete engine that I could find. I found a 4 bolt block and 1972 455 HO heads (not an original set), and no manifolds) with a small but repairable crack in one of the heads, for $2500 US in Florida, I think. Shipping would have added another $800 and I couldn't afford it at the time. Obviously, your set up is worth a lot more than that.
