What V8 was used and what exhaust manifolds? Were these manifolds shared with other divisions V8's?

How do you mean? As far as I know, there were a billion corporate engines in the 78-87 GP: 231 (v6), 267, 301, 305 and maybe even 307 and 4.3(v6). I'd originally heard that the pontiac 301 was only available in '78-80, but have have others claim they were available later. I bought my '81 with the 400 installed in it. I sold that car, but bought an '86 with a 305 that I'll put the 400 I kept in it. I can look and see what it has... maybe send digital pictures if it will help.

the 301 was available thru the 81 prod yr.
after that a 307 olds or 305 chevy were the v-8 choices unless you count the 350 olds diesel. in 86 the 305ho was used in the 2+2 exculsively. the bop engines got the 2004r trans and the chevy's got the 700r4 when overdrive was ordered. 3.8 and 4.1 v-6's were also available. i believe the 4.3 was offered in the late 86 production and 87 model yrs as a fuel injected option. it's worth mentioning that 2 3.8's were available in the 82- prior production yrs. the rear dist engine was a chevy [229cid] while the front dist engine [231cid] was a buick built unit. to my knowlege the turbo 3.8 was not offered in the pontiac chassis, it was in the chevy for a few yrs [79-80 i believe]. the manifolds for all g-a bodies will interchange within the gm family as long as the engine is the same. it's been my experience that for most applications 73-77 exhaust manifolds will dump in the right spot on the 81-87 g bodies for a usable system. one a side note, the 81 model year was the last production year that a man trans was offered in the g- a platforms. mike
