This is a long post! While browsing collectortraderonline.com on friday may 5th I came across a feature ad with pictures of a nice 66 gto convertible that was listed at only $10,000. The vinwas mistyped and there were some typos in the ad but it said the car was located in Winlock, WA and it listed a phone # and email. Seemd a little too nice for the price but I have a friend in Washington and if needed he could go check it out for me. I tried to call the seller but the number was wrong, so I emailed him and here was the response with my follow up, lol it really is funny how blatant some of these scam artists are:

Hello and thank you for your interest..

Some words about the car :
Perfect condition, No damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects, and
it is as advertised. The car is an US model with US specs, it passed the test
emissions and comes with all the documents you need to register the car . I
am the original owner of the car and the title is clear.

Shipping:
-I will ship the car with Lufthansa Air Cargo, and you will receive it in 5
days.This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a
year,so there will be no probleme to use it even in weekends. I guess it is
better for bouth to use it ,because is not like others services (FedEx
,UPS), regarding the size and weight of the unit.

Also,if you send me your full name and address, for i can make a
reservation for shipping, and in this case I will take you as a serious and
possible buyer( this way I will loose all the nonpaying bidders that I occur
everyday) and arrange a further deal.

The price we hope to obtain is 10000$ and if you agree with to this
price we can start completing the transaction. The shipping cost is 1000$ -
1200$, BUT because i am in Europe( for the moment i am in Italy and the car
is here with me) i will suport 50% from shipping cost.

SOO... the price of my car is 10000$ + 500$ shipping cost = 10500$ the
total amount to can drive this car .
The payment must be done using a bank deposit or money order. You have to
make a deposit of 1500 USD first through Western Union money transfer and
we will send the car in the same day. You will to pay the balance of 9000$
COD. The return policy is of 10 days.
To arrange the transfer, you must go in person to a Western Union office and
send the money from your name and address to my name and adrress.
But for your safety you can make the deposit from your name and adress to
WATH NAME DO YOU WANT HERE IN ITALY (EG:YOUR WIFE'S NAME ,FATHER'S
NAME,GRANDFATHER'S NAME OR WATH NAME DO YOU WANT)
I only need to check it NOT to pick up it!!!

Here are my details that you need for money transfer:
First name: Bill
Last name: Crytal
Address: VIA DEL CORSO 303
Zip code: 00187
City: ROMA
Country: ITALY

As i told you before, as soon as this deposit confirms, i will send the car
. As soon as you'll receive and inspect it, you must send the rest of the
money. If in 15 days, you'll not be happy with the car, you can return it and
have your money back. I will cover the potential return expenses, since i am
sure this won't be the case!
Let me know if that's ok with you, so i can start the shipping arrangements!
Waiting to hear from you as soon as possible!
Thanks

My Response:

Thanks for the reply Bill, I must be living right! A good friend of mine from the Navy is at the NATO war college in Rome and can inspect the car for me and help arrange the payment and shipping details, I can transfer money to his stateside account and he can get a cashiers check from the Navy Federal Credit Union branch in Naples. That would speed up payment and avoid any escrow fees. I also have friends in Naples, so between us all we can get the deal done. I will not buy the car without having it inspected but from the pictures it looks like a great deal. Email me your home and work numbers and I will have him call you this week, I am not sure of his schedule but I will talk to his wife here in the states and get some info to him after I hear back from you. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Ciao,
Mike

The address does exist in Rome, as does probably Bill Crytal. Hmmmm no specific response to my offer When I called his bluff, What do you think? send cash and hope for the best? Hahahahahahahaha. Maybe he will email me back with more details lol....NOT!!!!!

The Ad is no longer available on the website.

Stupid scammers, that's a Pontiac your trying to fake sell, pontiac people are smarter than that....aren't we? Well gotta run, expecting a car shipment from the airport....

I saw a 2000 Corvette on Autotrader for sale. The price was around 18k. The guy lived in Rome and needed to sell the car to buy a house. The phone number was an area code in Oregon. He would pay shipping and ship via Lufthansa air cargo.
