I just picked up a '89 Formula 5.0 today. The guy I bought it from said he put a 350 in it. I don't know anything about a
"C" word engine. How can one tell the difference between a 305 (5.0) and 350 (5.7)?The engine is seized and no doubt due to the fact there is no oil showing on the stick! It is a "Tune Port Injected" engine if that matters. Thanks for any tips, DanC ------------------------------ I'd rather be Historically Accurate than Politically Correct !

You will have to get the block casting number. It is on the top drivers side of the block, right next to were the trans bolts up. The 305 and 350 are virtually identical from the outside. The differance is the bore. They use the same crank and externals, although some of the 305's use a really small combustion chambered head. E-mail or post the casting # and I will check it for you.

Thanks for the info and research offer there zzrken.
Since posting this question I discovered it is a 5.0, funny thing is it has "5.0L" cast right beside the cast #. I do believe this is the original engine as the date codes for heads and block are within a month of build date! Anyway as of today it has an '88 305 with the '89 TPI and sensors. What a bear removing and replacing these "newer" engines ![]() DanC ------------------------------ I'd rather be Historically Accurate than Politically Correct !

ON A CHEVY ENGINE THE EASIEST WAY TO TELL A 350 FROM A 305 IS TO FEEL OF THE INSIDE (BACK) OF THE HARMINIC BALANCER....IF IT IS HOLLOW ON THE REAR IT IS A 305...IF IT IS A 350 IT WILL HAVE A SOLID BALANCER..BOTH WILL BE THE SAME DIAMETER....THIS IS ALL ASSUMING SOME IDIOT HASNT TRIED TO USE THE 305 BALANCER ON A 350...THIS IS THE RULE I USE AND IT HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN..JACK

Oh you live just north of the Post Office!
I grew up in "Sparkle City" on the Asheville Hwy just up the hill from Cleveland Park, ya know the one with the mini train! Anyway joined the USAF in '81 and been gone since. My parents and Brother live in Gramling on Turpin Rd, my Sister is in "Bubblin' Brooks". Alot of relatives on the Crawley side there in Inman. My Dad has my Model A, so if ya see a black rumble seat coupe running around with a FL plate thats him! Yeah it is a small world. About 15 years ago I was in a US Consolate bar in Kinshasa Zaire (Africa) when a guy walks in with a Beacon tee shirt on. Of course we both did the test question bit, and passed DanC ------------------------------ I'd rather be Historically Accurate than Politically Correct !

I emailed my Brother, Ron, about this place and found the owner has died. Ron knows the son and he said his Mom had the place open until a couple months ago, now waiting to decide whether to sell the whole place or open back up. The Son said there is part of a 64 or 65 GTO down there but the convert is a 64 Tempest.
Ron also sent me the link below, but damned if either of us can see a GTO or Tempest in there http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ima...=9707&z=17&w=1 DanC ------------------------------ I'd rather be Historically Accurate than Politically Correct !

Another hint is a 305's valve covers are bolted to the heads like on a Pontiac where the 350 valve covers are bolted down the center of the valve cover. Not totally sure if this is true but I have been told this on several occasions.
