Just fired up the new 469 pump gas motor in my Pro Street, and to my dismay almost lost it because of a bad filter! It started good and I adjusted the idle at 2000 RPM and played with the throttle for cam break-in. I checked oil pressure and it was at 30 idling at 2000- 2200 and the temp. was good. I went back up front and played with the throttle while checking for any leaks. When I checked again the press. was down to 20psi. This time I climbed in and worked the throtle while watching the gage. As I increased RPM the oil press. decreased so I shut her down. Turns out to be a bad FRAM PF25 filter. I had just picked up some HP2 filters for the oil change so I changed the filter and the pressure was back. Thank God! 35psi at 2000 and 60 at around 4000! They're gonna get this one back! ... Eric

Been using Fram's HP series filters for more than 5 years now without incident, and will continue to do so.

I did not have a problem with the HP2's just their regular filter. I also like the HP2. This incident got me thinking about a few things. Had I not blocked the bypass in the housing I would not have known that the filter was not doing it's job! Also it's good to have 2 people when you start a new motor. 1 for checking around the car and engine compartment and one working the throttle and watching the gages. ...Eric.

I order my HP2's from my local speed shop. Try your local speed shop and 'THEN' try Summit they list them in their catalog. I have not tried the K&N's. This was my first motor in a while that I used a disposable filter on, usually I run the System 1 stainless mesh filter. ... Eric

I stopped using Frams after my machine shop had
problems 4-5 years ago..He lost several motors on the dyno...Then put the word out..When we cut them open, the filter had colapsed..Fram, paid for
a couple of motors then stopped..Back about 2-3 years ago they claimed they had solved the problem
Wrong, guys are still losing motors.I wouldn't take the chance.....Use a Wix or inexpensive type.

FRAM UPDATE..... Just took my 69 for a ride to sort out some bugs and feel her out. Good oil pressure, water temp, etc. Got back to the garage and changed oil. Put on a new HP2! Guess what!!!! No oil pressure! Could this be? Two in a row. One PH25 from the parts store and 1 HP2 from the speed shop! I'm pissed now, I've got no filters left! I go looking for my remote setup and the System One filter but can not find my hoses! Go figure! I pulled the distributer just to make sure the pump shaft was OK and it is. I turned it by hand with a screwdriver and oil spurted out of the block! I also pulled the valve covers to make sure that I did not spit out a lifter and I hooked up a different oil pressure gage which also showed no pressure. I'm going back tomorrow to slap on the remote, one way or the other. I'll let you know what happens because i'm sure it's the filter. ... Pi$$ed!

Why couldn't you clean it? I have had mine for about 5 years now and clean it twice a year at every oil change. It's just a stainless screen. I also picked up pressure when I installed it. A bonus in my book. ... Eric

Screen is easy, its the inner tube with the check ball inside that you can't get to that worries me. You can never tell if its clean inside or not.

Bill, do you have your bypass pluged? It seems odd to me too, but the first HP2 filter was OK. I had 60psi this morning when I first fired it up. I also had 60psi cruising just before the oil change. I put on a new HP2 and droped in 8 litres 5W50 Syntec and on startup I had not 1psi! Spinning the pump by hand I shot oil out of the block. What else? I'm so comfused! ... Eric

Goatman, on that inner tube thingy. I clean it with 'Brakeclean' and then look at it with a set of old 'X-Ray' glasses I got from an add in the back of a 'Baby Huey' comic. Hey, maybe I can take those filters and...... !
