I'm looking for a shop in the NYC area to rework a set of #14 heads. These heads are off of a 68 GTO (2bbl. option). Beyond a basic rebuild I am looking to have the following work done:
- Open bowls to install larger 2.11/1.77 valves
- Install hard exhaust seats
- Shave the heads to bump compression ratio from 8.6 to around 9.0-9.3
- Replace press-in studs with screw-in
- Maybe some port work

Prefer a shop on Long Island but any recommendations in the Tri-State area are appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

I spoke to Nunzi. He was very friendly and helpful but said that he was retired from working on cars and was now just selling parts. Unfortunately he could not recommend anyone else.

Anybody else have a suggestion? Also, do I need to be looking for a "Pontiac guy" or can any machine shop/engine builder do this type of work?

Paul Spotts. Not too far from you in Hatfield Pa. Does very good head work.... Just a question. Why not just go with a #16 head that is correct for a 68 GTO and has most of that stuff done already?

Mo,

Thanks for the info. To answer your question, I was originally looking to go the #16 route but others (on this site and off) recommended reworking the original heads as it would allow me to dial in the compression ratio to be more pump gas friendly as opposed to the #16s. I also like the idea of keeping the original #14 heads as the rest of the car (with the exception of the 4bbl carb and intake) is numbers matching. A third reason would be to save a little $$$ by not having to buy and most likely have to pay shipping for #16 heads.

If you are still looking try S&S Speed on Atlantic Ave in Richmond Hill Queens. Great guys, zero attitude, and great work.

FORSALE,

Thanks for the tip. Richmond Hill is close by. I'll check them out.
