CDN2PLS2:

The picture CD from my old negatives is supposed to be ready by 4:30 today. I'll either be posting some pics late this afternoon or in the morning.

Won't be a problem to e-mail them to you as well, if you'd like me too.

Gotta get my scanner hooked back up and start scanning in a BUNCH of old pics I've got. Would be nice to scan in my '71 and '72 dealer albums as well. Where will I find the time - now that's another matter altogether!

Later,
Lloyd

OK, gotta run home - it's late. But I wanted to post the one side pic of the '72 T41 455 LeMans that I got put on a CD today.

Didn't turn out very well I'm afraid.

Later,
Lloyd

Great pictures Lloyd! when were they taken ? I wonder if the sword (d98)stripes were an option( available on which cars), and if you got the GT option was it standard, and then again was the "GT" on the stripe just on the gt option??? Once again I`ll get some more pictures of my car up tomorrow,( rained here today!)

Actually I`m looking at the sales order form and it calls the gt option code "332" and it includes the "rally stripes " code 614 so I guess it`s included with the GT option, as is the dual exhaust/ with side splitters, ect...

upc code 614 was used for 'all' stripe options on the 1972 'A' body Lemans, Sport,GT and GTO.3 different stripes were offered based on the model. The reflective sword stripes were standard on all 1972 GT models with the call out in front of the front wheel opening in either black, silver, blue or gold depending on the body color with standard chrome bumper -or- optional endura styling option front bumper. This same stripe (without the GT call out),a solid stripe was available as an option on all 2-door coupe or sedan models with the standard chrome front bumper in the same above described colors on Lemans and Lemans Sport. The ' 9 stripe laser stripe' was used on -all- endura styling option 2door coupe or sedan models as an option including GTO in either white or black depending on body color. The stripe color could not be requested,it was only as the required Pontiac choice.
I sold these cars new and since this question came up I have been going through the invoices and build sheets on a lot of cars we sold and remembering each of them. I am confident that this info is true and correct for the 1972 model year.
Oh ,by the way in an earlier post I mentioned a white car with blue stripe that I thought was not a GT,I found invoice and it was a GT,making it a blue sword stripe on a GT with an endura styling front.

Forrest:

These pics are from OLD negatives I found yesterday from pics that were taken at Gulf Coast Trans Am spring drags event back in the early 80's - probably 1980 or 1981.

I've always regretted not going over to this car in the pits to talk to the owner and see if it was a HO or d-port car. By looking at the pics, I'm almost positive that it was NOT a GT.

Here's one of my '72 GT 455HO (originally a 400 2V) at the same event. Please excuse the paint and stripes - my car had gotten popped in the RH door, and I had my bodyman install s used door and paint from the doors back. Unfortunately I haven't found the pics I have of the car once he finished painting it and installed the new stripes. I sold the car a couple of years later and bought a '75 T/A.

Later,
Lloyd

To upload a pic with your post - after typing in whatever text you want, before clicking on the "Post Now" button scroll down and click on the "post attachment" box in the options field. Once your post is uploaded another menu pops up asking for a name of the pic and there is a browse button so you can direct the program to wherever the pic file is on your PC.

If you need more help, ask away!

Hope this helps,

Looking good Forrest!

Stripes...
Def need a scanner

On the endura nose '72 LeMans GT's, have pics & copys of paperwork on a red 400 4spd LeMans GT convert that was built out of Pontiac plant & it originally came with white 9 stripe decals & white GT decal on rh side of trunk lid. Original owner still owned it as of '90, when I received all the info.

Chrome nose '72 LeMans GT's were all supposed to come with the refective stripes with the GT "cutout" in the front fender stripe, but this was not always the case. Have had over half a dozen '72 LeMans GT parts cars & two of them still had original paint fenders with the no cut-out stripes. Still have a pair of quezal gold fenders off one such car...the car was a 350 manual 3spd LeMans GT out of Atlanta plant. When I was preparing to have the stripes digitized, it actually took a while to find a '72 LeMans GT that had the "GT cutouts" in the front fender stripe to get accurate pencil rubbings of the placement, so the GT outline could be digitized. In stripping parts off many other LeMans GT's in yards, have also run across the same scenario... car would have the sword style stripes & GT on the decklid, but many times would not have the GT cutout in the front fender stripes. These cars were not regular D98 optioned 2 door LeMans hardtops, either. All had twin tailpipe splitters (or evidence there of) & usually still had their original 14" rally II wheels.

Roger:

As you can see on the old pics of my chrome-nosed GT, the fender stripes had no "GT cutouts" either. Don't know if I can find the VIN to see which plant it was assembled at for documentation purposes.

I bought the car from the original owner's son here in Houston back in 1979. The RH fender had been replaced or at least resprayed at one time before I bought the car, but the LH fender had OE paint and striping as far as I could tell. As you can see, it had "GT" decals below the LeMans emblems on the fenders, as well as on the RH side of the deck lid.

This car is one of the few of my former Pontiacs I wish I had back. Just really liked the way it looked and drove. It was a fairly low option car. Plain LeMans, black bench seat interior, column shifted TH400, 400 2V, AM radio, GT option package and A/C were about the only options. Was built with a peg-leg diff (don't recall the ratio) which I eventually changed out for a '72 GTO 4.10 12-bolt posi. A real freeway flyer with the 455 and 4.10's - LOL!

Here's another pic.

Lloyd

I have been reading this topic with much interest. Thought you might be interested in seeing a picture of my project. PHS documented 71 GT-37 with later stripe. Was 350 2bbl I am doing it as a 400 4 bbbl 4 speed with 4:10 12 bolt posi.
