I have a 1995 Bonneville with 180,000 plus miles. I have owned the car since new. I just started having problems. When driving at a low speeds the car just stops. It has also done it a few times while stopped at a traffic light. When I try to restart the car it turns over several minutes before starting. I thought the fuel filter may be bad and changed it but that was not the fix. When the car stops it does not sputter or anything it just stops and I get a check gauge warning. I am considering buying an OBD II tester but was hopping for some advice first.

Thank
Keith

Keith; Get the trouble codes out of the computer; use a scan tool(maybe you can borrow one) and see if there any set and also most good scanners have a "live action" mode so you can see what your sensors are doing...i.e. oxygen sensor etc. This should help you narrow down and pinpoint the cause. Let us know what happened.

The water pump does not leak and I never checked for spark the cars starts with-in a few minutes. One thing I have noticed it only stops running at low speeds 30 and under or when stop like at a traffic light.

I think I will just replace the crank sensor. Can't cost too much and hopefully not too difficult to install

Please let me know what you find. I have a 96 Bonneville doing the same thing except my check gauge warning light does not come on so nothing is written to computer. I changed fuel filter and fuel pump checked out OK. I would really appreciate knowing what you find causing the issue

I replaced the crank sensor I also replaced the harmonic wheel. I must have tweaked it a little when removing it. Car has not acted up since.
