I'd like to get my headlight bezels rechromed. Can pot metal be done? They are heavily pitted but otherwise solid. I'd probably send in the mirrors and door handles too. I would think it would be worth it seeing the prices of NOS stuff lately. Thanks,
Brian

It can be done, but the cost will be much greater than using a combination of nos and reproduction parts. Email me if you are interested in some quotes.

I had a price given to me to chrome my trans am bezels at $275 each. I ended up finding one new one and a good pair of used bezels.Eastwood has a kit to repair the pitting.

Thanks, Brian

Of course, sometimes repro parts or NOS Parts are not available, and you have to restore some original old parts. Pot metal can be rechromed, but not by just any rechromer. You need to use a place that is experienced with pot metal and advertises that they do pot metal. It's always better to start with the best parts you can to get the best results. If your headlight bezels are heavily pitted, I'd try to find some more used ones that are in better shape and have the better ones rechromed. If you can't find any better headlight bezels, then yours can still be rechromed, but it may cost more and not turn out quite as good. The best place I've used is Lemon Grove Plating in California, 619/264-8053. I've also used a place called Pot Metal Restorations in Florida, and they did a good job. Also Paul's Chrome is Pennsylvania appears to do good work on pot metal, but I've never used them. Pick up a copy of Hemmings Motor News magazine on the magazine stand of a book store, like Borders. You'll find these rechromers and others advertising there, as well as many other auto resto services, and people selling almost any kind of car part there is. I don't know what all is reproduced for a 67 GTO, but I'd think the mirrors and door handles might be available.

Snow;
I just had my 67 Cat headlight bezels rechromed at an outfit by the name of Bumper Boyz in Calif. A week later I found a NOS set on E bay for the same price as I paid for rechroming. I must say that the rechroming job was better than the NOS. Look around and see if there available in NOS. If not, then go with rechroming. As to the mirror and handles, does our host stock them? If not some other parts house. I have not done my rear view mirror yet but from what I read here, its no easy job to do. Guess I will find out when the time comes. Let us know how things go. |

We bought a 69 Firebird front bumper for Jerry's bird, from Bumper Boyz.
Probably one of the best chrome jobs I've seen in my 30+ years experience

I'll get some prices, but if a regular bumper rechromer can't do it, it will not be worth it to ship these all over North America to some specialty shop. NOS do come along now and then on E-bay and prices range from $75 to 250 depending on the day of the week it seems. There is a set of left and right on there right now at $535!
I may try a repro for the left as apparently the quality has improved on them. Thanks, Brian
