I'm looking for a 64 76x motor. Car was built in pontiac march 21st, I have heard the date on the motor has to be 3 to 6 weeks before the car's build date. Is there any truth to that? Thanks for any help.

Since the Pontiac V8s were built in Pontiac, the engine supply line for the cars assembled in the Pontiac main plant was very short, virtually through the wall. Cars built at various other plants across the country may have had longer gaps in the casting/build chronology timeline due to transport time requirements. Only a survey of original-engine cars will reveal just how long or short the gap was between the casting of the engine components, and the assembly date of the car that that engine eventually ended up in might have been. At a peak build time, (March was still in that peak time) I'm guessing that the engines could have been assembled and installed in the same week in Pontiac.

Anyone have some actual time span info?
