I had to drill the lock cylinder out of my ignition switch and in doing so, I buggered the switch housing up a bit. I have a new lock cylinder coming but I'm having no luck finding a 1968 Tempest/LeMans/GTO ignition switch.
Ames says it's not reproduced by anyone yet. I found one vendor that sells a 1968 ignition switch and they show the application as being correct for various other GM 'A' body cars but under Pontiac, it only lists Firebird. What's the story? I've written to that vendor by the way, but I just thought I'd ask here while I wait on a response.

Looking at the GM service manual for 1968, it shows the Firebird and GTO switches working differently.

Thanks Bob. Guess I'd better hit the swapshop because nobody that I can find sells one. Maybe the dealer but I'll bet that costs a pretty penny.

Thanks Bob. I've got it on my watch list. I searched there yesterday but I guess it was listed later in the day.
One thing bothers me though....Mine doesn't look like that and there are only 5 prongs on mine. That one has 8. In fact, mine looks exactly like the photo below, which is the one I found that fits only the Firebird. Well, there is one difference with this one too... Again, mine has 5 contacts, and the one pictured here appears to have 6.

Well, I've pretty much determined that my car has been re-wired to accept an non original switch as the '68 lock cylinder won't fit it.
At this point, I'm kind of stuck. Any suggestions? I'm thinking I'll try to get the switch linked to above on eBay and then I'll address trying to get the wiring right. Need a schematic though. Any help here?
