I'm building one with a 4.800" arm based on a '59 block. I went with the odd stroke number just to be a bit bigger. I am raising the deck 2" for strength and to have a better rod ratio. The bore is going to be around 4.375" for 577" or a bit more for 580+". Rod length is 8.25". It's a big mutha with a good r/s ratio esp for its size. I had custom sleeves made and have installed two of them recently when about a month back I broke a gear in my friends boring bar. That has put the project on hold. I haven't been able to find a replacement gear so I have to have one made from scratch, it is a big pain. After the boring bar is fixed I will resume. It will be 14-71 blown/injected with high ported Super Chiefs and/or M/T HEMI heads. It will go in a boat and a funny car project to experiment and develop and play with. I have parts to build 2 or 3 of them if the first works out or changes will be made as needed. It will be on display at Pontiac Heaven April 2 and 3 in Phoenix.

Wow!!! Too bad I'm all the way up here in Victoria. Otherwise, I'd be there in April just to take a look!

How do you raise the deck 2"?

I'd thought of that but I also thought that might introduce sealing problems. I guess that wouldn't be a problem, though, if the cylinder is sleeved. Is that right?

I guess I'm also used to thinking in terms of cooling & so on, which isn't as much of a problem with something that's race only.

It is not race only, it will be streetable and used in a high performance ski/pleasure boat. The sleeve goes through the deck and into the block. The deck plates have been gundrilled to run water in them too. Steve www.pontiacheaven.org

Steve,
Good to hear that another boat project is in the works. Will it have the Super Chiefs heads on it or the Hemi? If you dont have the headers for the Super Chiefs, I'll be getting a new set made for my boat in a few months (Feb'ish) & could get an extra set made if you need it?

Ron

Wow, should be a great combo. If you have a chance, it'd be great if you post some picks of the car, engine, crank, et cet.

Thought I'd share some good news.

Mile High Crankshaft called and said they could repair the crack in my billet crank.

Also I mis-spoke, the crack was in a rod journal not on a main as I stated.

Also I found a couple articles that some might find interesting...

These are from http://www.engine-builder.com

"Repairing a rod journal on a Callies aftermarket forging", by Paul Savadin in the Aug 2002 issue of Engine Builder.

"Performance crankshafts", by Duane Boes in the Aug 2003 issue ... this one deals deals with performance crankshafts, repair or replace after damage.

they tell everyone 8 weeks, at least thats what i was told too, so if you order one dont be surprised if it takes longer and be surprised if you get it in 8 weeks maybe they just dont like me
