What do you think is a fair price for a 65/66 GTO Hdtop frame? Does anyone have any ideas on where to find one <120 miles away from the pittsburgh area. Thanks

Kind of piggy-backing here, but the GTO restoration guide shows that the frames for 64, 65, and 66 have the same wheelbase for 2 door and 4 door models. This sounds different, but is it true? I know there are differences in convertible frames (boxed) and hardtop/post frames, but if someone was looking for a frame for a '65 (like I am currently), could I also use one from a 64 or 66, wether it be 2 or 4 door?? Perhaps I read it wrong--if so, sorry!!--but you never know unless you ask...thanks in advance!!

Aren't the frames for all GM A-bodies the same for each model year, except convertables, Does anyone know if the frames on 64,65,66 A-bodies are all the same?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but as I understood it in '64, '65, and '66 all the GTO's had boxed frames and all the convertibles, whether GTO, LeMans, or Tempest also had boxed frames. As to whether 2 & 4 doors had the same length frame, I don't know. Anyone else out there have any input.

Close but no cigar.

Most GTOs did not have "convertible" frames under
them. There was a "Heavy Duty" frame option for
the roof cars where the factory would install a
convertible frame under the car but it was not
common and definitely not stock on all GTOs.

64, 65, 66, and 68 frames will interchange as far
as the mounting bushings go. The 67 auto cars have
the crossmember rearward compared to the 64,65,66
cars which had 2 speed Autos or 3 or 4 speed Manual transmissions.

Convertibles were boxed as you said.

A restoration type guy will pick up on the several
differences in the way the front (under engine)
crossmember is made but the average guy may not.

If you are just looking for a solid frame anything
from BOP and Chevelle will work (64-67).

Wagons are different, El Caminos are different.

going through a frame replacement myself right now for my '66 sedan, I found that the frames can be quite different depending on the assembly plant. Both my '66 cars were built in the Pontiac plant, and have identical frames (both off the cars where I can see them). However the replacement frame I have came from a Kansas plant car, and is visibly different in both the front and rear cross member areas. I seen the car this frame came from, and it was definitely another 66 GTO. I've had a look under several other '66s and seen the same type of frame in other "K" plant cars too. Don't know about the other plants, but Pontiac and Kansas definitely used different frames. Here's an example of what a Kansas Plant Frame looks like. Have a look under your 66 and see how yours compares. Post your assembly plant if possible too, since I'm interested in which plants used which type of frames.

BTW, I paid $75 for that bare frame a few years ago in Indiana.

Nope,
Having processsed hundreds of A-bodys can emphatically state there are differences, sometimes minor & some times major, between years of the early A-body frames.
-'64 is cosmetically different than '65 on the front of the frame crossmember.
-'64,65,66, & 67 Chevelle frames are totally different than same year BOP A-body frames.
-'66-67 4 door hardtop LeMans & 4 door hardtop Skylarks also have different frames than same year BOP 2 door/4 door A-body sedan frame.

Need to price just about any year of A-body frame for sale in PA, do a Google search for Sundell Auto Specialties.
