Don't know if this helps but I used a standard steering box and pitman arm from a S10 in my 88 Bird. Was a 5 minute bolt in.

I used a manual box from a 1990 Sonoma (same as an S-10) and reused the pitman arm from my '79 T/A. The Sonoma arm had the wrong angle to it and the bearing end was too small to fit the center link. Pretty straightforward bolt in.

I know someone else that used a box from an '85 S-10 and when I got mine, that was what I asked for, so at least the '85-'90 S-10 and Sonoma boxes are the same.

Are you guys building road racers or mostly drag racers or what? I guess you save a lot of weight by ditching the PS...

What is the lock-to-lock on those S-10 boxes??

Lock to lock? Not sure, but it's alot slower than a P/S box, and that's what is preferred on a drag car. May not have any lock-lock at all, may just have a worm gear and a spherical gear and be able to rotate 360 in either direction, at which point the lock-lock would be dictated by the stops on the lower control arms.
