I am looking to restore my 68 Auto exhaust to original spec's. Originally these had 2" dual exhaust with that weird dual tailpipe, are you familiar with this? One pipe went down and was slash cut @ the rear bumper-the other tailpipe went up, was 18" long and capped just below the trunk pan. Some sort of resonator.
Does anyone reproduce this? |

68 Verdoro... I am the process of putting the Gardener Exhaust on my 68 automatic. Unless you want 100% stock you could do like I did and put on the 68 standard exhaust system without those very expensive tuning pipes. I am currently in the middle of a frame off... but could not really see spending that much on those tailpipes. Hopefully will have exhaust finished this weekend but with 3 kids in sports there is not alot of time on the weekends for the next 8 weeks.

I have a 67 with the standard trans exhaust system but the car is an automatic. I anticipate replacing the exhaust sometime this year and don't know if I want to go back to the resonators in the tailpipes or not. The car sounds great the way it is and I don't want it to change when I replace it. Will the correct exhaust be extremely quiet compared to the manual trans. exhaust system? I like the idea of saving money, too.

merlotgoat: I would call the folks at Gardner if you are looking at a stock exhaust system and talk to them about the difference in exhaust tone. They never tried to force the other 100% correct pipes on me and were a real pleasure to deal with.

I spoke to guys at Gardener, you are right, they are a pleasure to deal with. They get $545 + Tax for the 2 1/4" w/o tuners, close to $1000 for the complete tuner/facory system.
