Newbie question - I have a 72 lemans with a 350, AC, PS and column shifted powerglide. How difficult/what's the best procedure for header installation? I'm looking for any experienced tricks that may ease the process. Is there a particular brand of header that may go in easier?
Thanks for any guidance before I purchase.

I put big tube headers on my 71 lemans. I had to move the proportioning valve. Also changed to floor shift so I could lose all the shifter stuff on the column that was in my way. I had to lifter the engine up so I could fit them in.

Check your heads Some 350 did not have 6 bolt holes on the heads they only had 4.

They are not as easy to install as chebby headers, but you should be able to do it.

For me, the fastest way was to remove the front clip and then install the headers and re-install the front clip. That's what I did the second time and it was less time and less knuckle busting than the first time.

To install the headers you will need several different tools. I used combination wrenches, 3/8" drive sockets and a 90 degree open wrench. The 90 degree was necessary to get to a couple of the bolts that the combination did not want to reach. I've never had a header gasket leak since I put them on years ago. Just remember to retorque the bolts after running them. I'd check them soon after installation and then again after a couple of hundred miles. After that just add gas an go.

The hooker super comp are good. I hear Dougs header are the best, but they come at a cost. Cheaper headers don't fit as well. Stay away from ones that say they will fit a lot of different model 350s, stick with ones for GTO and LeMans. Lethal 428 makes a good point about the bolt holes, although they do make an adapter that bolt to the front and back ends of the block. You'll have to most likely raise the moter and put them in from the bottom. USE GOOD GASKETS,not cheap paper gaskets. The 4th bolt back from the front is the worst and you don't want to have to remove them to replace the gasket right away. I like to put slits in the gasket and slid them in with all the bolts in place. Oh ya, if you drink, have a six pack on hand!
