I have a 74 X-Body that has a problem with the drivers door latch. I just installed the outside lock and decided to try it. Locked the door and now can't get it unlocked. The problem is not with the lock cylinder, but the latch itself won't come unlocked. I have removed the outer cylinder, pryed, poked, yelled ect. to no resolve.
At this point I am thinking about having to drill holes in the latch within the door and start taking it apart bit by bit. Any help before I get to that point would be wonderful.

Thanks,
Unchained

will the door unlock [ button come up]? if not work the latch and pull up gently on the button. my truck does this occasionally, don't ask me why. you also may try unhooking the rod from the handle and work it that way . lube the latch well with pb blaster and let it sit for an hour or so before trying the above. mike

Mike,
Thanks for the advise. The problem is that the door won't unlock. I am going to soak it down with solvent and try one more time.

Thanks,

My F body did the same thing when I bought it. If the key won't unlock it and the knob is useless (like mine was), the hanger may have come loose from the door latch itself. I just removed the inner door lining (a real pain with the door closed), and with a flashlight and a screwdriver, I just bent the hanger back into place through a small hole in the door and havn't had a problem since. Hope that helps.

It is open. I appreciate everyone's help. It is amazing what you can do with an M-80.

Thanks,
