Hi,
Where can I buy a replacement clock movement for my 1968 GTO Rally Clock? The electro magnet that winds my clock is burned out. The hands, face and lens are in great shape. I have it apart and it looks like a replacement should drop right in. Will a later model clock movement work? Thanks, Mike

I rewound the coil on my clock about a year ago and it is still working fine.
Go to Radio Shack and buy a pack of their varnished coil/electromagnet wire and have fun. I think I did like 250 wraps but I don't remember for certain. __________________________________________________ ___ I don't see it as just a job, I see it as one third of my life. |

Hi,
The plastic around the coil is melted, so I'm not sure I will be able to rewind the coil. Sure wish it would be that easy. I might also have to clean the gears and timing wheel because they don't turn real well. I'll check the sources provided. Thanks, Mike

Should just be a steel core in the middle, get down to that and you are good to go on rewinding it yourself.

Might try to find a quartz movement if your car sits for long periods. I have 2 or 3 clocks that work for my cars. I just had to spray the works with some lubricant to get them to operate as they are supposed to. If you find a spare cheap enough, just swap them out too. I know of about 20 clocks in a junkyard for my spares. They just suck to remove.

I have a quartz replacement kit on the way from OPG right now to fix my 68 rallye clock. I'll let you know how it turns out - it was about $70 w/ shipping.

about 6 years ago, I bought a cheap movement from a clock store, and just made the hands fit on. It wasnt too hard. And the movement cost me $10.00 It runs on 1 AA battery. I ran the wires out the little hole and double taped the battery to the back of the clock..I dont use the clock anymore but it ran for a couple of years that way. I might still have it somwhere. I'll look.,.,

I took mine apart and cleaned it up nice but now it runs fast. Every couple hours I have to reset the time. Anyone come across this?

I purchased the quartz replacement kit from instrument services mentioned earlier. Installation was easy and your purchase includes a "how to" video. The quartz clock will be much more accurate than the original movement.
