I'm installing new RA/HO exhaust manifolds on my 389 GTO. If I paint these with Eastwood paint, should I use some kind of high temp primer first? Is Eastwood's the best?

THUNDER, DON'T MESS WITH THE PAINT. IT WILL EVENTUALLY BURN OFF AND LOOK LIKE FIDO'S BUTT. SEND THEM TO JET HOT AND GET THEM COATED INSIDE AND OUT . IT IS WORTH IT AND LOOKS GREAT. THEY HAVE A WEB SITE.

I used the Eastwood paint on mine. They look great but the motor is still on the stand [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif[/img].
In retrospect, I wish I had gotten mine ceramic coated so I'd never have to worry about painting them but I was feeling too cheap on the day I ordered them. Plus, the price was right for the eastwood paint (donated by another board member [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img])! I used two coats of the Eastwood paint and cured it with a heat gun between coats.

I USED THE EASTWOOD BRUSH ON PAINT ON MY 74 FORMULA EXHAST MANIFOLD LASTED A LITTLE LONGER THAN OTHER HIGH TEMP PANITS I USED. IF I EVER GET THE MONEY IM GOING TO HAVE THEM JET HOT COATED

I painted mine with good ole 1200 degree paint from the parts store. It started out black and has turned a sort of dark chocolate brown. And its still there. I did cure the paint by running the engine for short periods of time and then allowing it to cool. I drive the car regularly and estimate running it about 2000 miles since the installation. Be careful putting the manifolds on after painting or coating, especially on the drivers side. They will get scratched up. David

Did any of you use a high-temp primer before putting on the final coat? Is primer a good thing or a bad thing to do on Exhaust manifolds?

IN THE PAST IVE USED HIGH HEAT PRIMER AND IT DOES SEEM TO HELP THE PAINT LAST LONGER

I went looking for 1500 degree manifold primer and couldn't find any. All high temp primers were for engine blocks and rated 500 degrees. Maybe that means I just use the Eastwood paint directly on the manifold.

for years i have been using the POR-15 exhaust coatings, with great results. they are inexpensive, durable and last. no primers necessary.
use the POR-20 brilliant silver coating as a basecoat, then use the POR-15 exhaust black for top coating.
the silver can be used by itself if you prefer that color.
