Anyone ever put S/W front+rear coil springs in a GTO to give it more height? Maybe order them for an A/C car.

Hello,

I replaced front and rear coils in my '66 Lemans Convt. a couple of years ago. For the fronts I purchased, from my local auto shop, a pair of stock replacements for an air conditioned car(mine does not have AC). This gave the front the exact height I was looking for. I replaced the rear with '66 LeMans station wagon springs...again, I ordered them from my local auto parts store. I am not too happy with these springs because the make the car situp and inch or two higher than the front. To combat this, I keep a 70 lbs sand bag(double lined)in the trunk. The evens the car out and give it the stance I want.

I believe PY, Ames, or Y1 may sell a higher than normal spring that is between the stock spring(which sits too low) and the S/W spring(which for me sits too hight). If I find out for sure, I'll let you know.

Take care...and good luck.

Dan

If you find a good parts guy, or one that will let you in his catalogs you can find alot of info there. Spring rate and height, what ends, spring rod diameter. It's all in the back of the book. (TRW book has it) I have helped several people find the proper springs for several applications this way.

The DotRod rides again.

Check out Springs n Things (www.espo.com). I used the S/W rear springs on my 67.

hey i've been doing this for the past two weekends. the rear took one sunday and the front took another. i went to my local autoparts store and they looked up the parts less than $300.00.
they didn'they didn't have to come from china. they fit, work and look good after the install.
new shocks and springs all four corners. the guy at the parts store said that the springs were the same for all cars including the wagon which told me that they would handle anything i might throw at it.

Back several years ago the Glasgo brothers up in Ohio always seemed to come up with 64-67 GTO's that they had raised to what I thought was the perfect height. I remember asking them one time about it and they said that they used SW springs all around.

I used Olds Vista Cruiser springs front and rear in my 66 convert and it went way up there. cleared the too wide of wheels and air shocks kept up there with passengers in back. You didn't say how high you want to go, but a parts house spring book with diameters and heights compression heights and load weights should get you where you want without spending a fortune

I used tempest/lemans stationwagon springs in the back of my 66 - worked perfect. Picked it up about 2 inches from stock, but also had to use a different shock. The originals were too short to bolt up. e- mail me if you want the part numbers.

For the Rear, use MOOG Coil Springs #5399.
These are for a 67 Lemans station wagon with the towing package I was able to get them through CarQuest. For the front, I used the standard coil springs from Performance Years coupled with new body mounts throughout. For some reason, the standard rear springs from PY dont do the job, they sag a lot!

My 67 sits nice and level now using MOOG on the rear.
