I recently had my 400 on the wheel dyno, and the results were 310 hp @ 5000 rpm, and 390 ft-lbs at 3500 rpm at the rear wheels. The heads flow 235cfm, Edlebrock Performer (not RPM), 750 Quadrajet, 240/240 @ 0.050" Solid Lifter cam, 9.5:1, headers, 2 1/4" dual exhaust. Munci M-21, 3:42 rearend. The dyno runs were done with the powerstearing, wterpump and alternator hooked up. No A/C.
What would be a guess at crank HP/TQ, and do the numbers above seem in the ball park for the motor combo? Thanks! |

Thanks for the reply's.
The motor is in a '73 Trans Am, so I am limited to what intake I can use. I want to retain the shaker hood scoop. I have recently purchased a Holley Street Dominator which I plan on trying. I am hoping that this will let the motor run a little stronger from 4700-5200 or so. Presently, the power starts to fall off around 4800, but the lowend torque is really increadible! Has anyone had any experiance using the Holley Street Dominator? Does the motor still run ok at idle and low rpm, and how about the upper rpm range? Thanks! |

The original Torker fits but moves the carb back about 5/8".There is a guy who makes an air cleaner base to use the RPM in TAs. Blocker performance??
My 78 has the Shaker on the motor and I run a Torker II with a 3/8" spacer. Its snug but looks pretty stock.

Heres my 400 combo. Comp 9000 Mallory Dist ,all mechanical.Mallory high fire IV , Base timing set at 16 degs, total at 34-36 deg in at 2800. Street dominator with dividers ground sharp as knives which I find out is bad but, oh well. 800 Holley DBL Pumper. No idea what jets since this was a used carb I just threw on and ran good. Heads are gasket matched only, about 20 minutes worth.Cam is a Crane Commander 226-234 with 1.65 roller rockers. I had to elongate the pushrod holes to clear the pushrods, stock valve grind with 2 new valves and new set of springs that I don't remember what they were. Cost was $300 for springs grind and 2 valves. 1 3/4" Super comp headers into complete 2 1/2" flowmaster exhaust , TH 350 with Hughes 3,000 convertor,10 bolt with 4 wheel disc brakes, Poly Urethane bushings through out, 1 1/4" front sway bar and 7/8" rear hooked up even at strip. Cal Tracks on rear, Drag radials 275 50 15s, pizza cutters up front, full stock interior.Rear mounted battery. As you can see this is not set up as your typical 12 sec car but it just works? I will be putting on an X pipe next to try for 12.5 secs or better. The engine was built in 1991 for $999. and trans is a stock used TH350 that I bought for $100. Cheap and fast, bare bones. Also this car never gets over 175 degs in traffic and runs on ARCO pump gas.sixt8bird pages 5 total

My time on this combo is a best of 12.69 at 103MPH. Low MPH was due to backing out at 1000ft mark since I was 10-12 car lengths on competing car. I slammed on the brake then the last secs floored it and snuck past the finish line by a half car length. Still broke out by .2 secs DOH.

That is what I dynoed at in my 99LS1 Trans Am. The car was rated at 305HP net from the factory.
That gave me mid 13's with no traction and it is good for about 365hp at the crank. Nice numbers. |
