Little bit of a heated debate going on her. Usually people take their car to track and settle the differences.
Unfortunantly in a forum there is no way but through keyboard stroking. O Well ammusing thats for sure! There is a guy I spoke with on the phone who just did up his 350 pontiac with a roller cam and 4000 stall with e-heads etc. I'll let you know what the final hp is. What cam did the magazine say they used? Most performance shops that I've visited say, " I don't know what magazine that guy's been reading " What ever if the car's nice , engine works and even better owner's nice then life should be good.

The debate is over one guy who doesn't like the fact that I didn't like the writing styles or opinions of an author for Hot Rod. Too bad for him. The other debate is over Street Rods, which I also don't like. They're pretty as hell to look at (chrome won't get you home), but when you ride in one, you'll know what I'm saying. Notice none of the Street Rod "fans" was willing to address that? A BUNCH of guys don't like that. Too bad for them. I have a right to state my opinion, or "think out loud" just like every other memeber here. I still have my subscription for Hot Rod, just like I do Car Craft, and will continue to do so, for the forseeable future. Its worth it just for the ideas they can give you. Sometimes all it takes is a picture. But the stuff they try to make cool again, like those dumb ass straight axle POS's, is just too much sometimes. If it were still worth doing, a majority of folks would still be doing it. I just feel they're going backwards instead of forwards, including safety wise. |

I think it is fitting at this time to start the GT37man fan club. Who wants to join? Oh come on!!
P.S. You have to be a thoughtless A-hole to join....

Rick, then you can be the charter member.

When I started this I didn't think it would be so nasty. Just a good laugh. My thought was WHY build a 350 when 400's are STILL so plentiful. The shrouding of the valves, the rotten Bore to stroke ratio of the 350 seems like a waste of time and money. In 1988 I built up the 350 in my bird with closed chamber 389 heads and an 068 cam, Performer intake, headers etc. I got smoked by a 72 GTO with a stock 78 400 and 3.08. NEVER AGAIN. NickV, Hot Rod and all the other mags have not done a Chevy 307 buildup to the best of my knowledge. Again, a waste of time. As far as steet rods go, I apprecciate all the trick workmanship that goes into them and have even gotten a few ideas for my 69 GTO but would never own one. At 6'3" 275 lbs they are to small. (for me that is) I respect the street rod guys for the time they have put into their passion, but again it's not for me. I have also bought stuff from Fulper but just don't trust him. My "custom" built Coan converter showed up at my door with a half inch of dust on the box and 2 inches on the converter. My Moroso oil pan with oil pump and pick-up showed up with the stock pick-up tilted down to the bottom of the pan and was told it was fine. NOT WHAT I PAID FOR !!!! All in all I think we Poncho fans know that indeed cubes are king. The average 400 or 455 can't make power above 5500 rpm's. (remeber, I said average) If we as a group are going to spend $7500.00 it might as well be on a bigger engine. As a side note, I would never build a 400. I want more size!!! (my girlfriend always says that) The tried and true 455 is fine for me. Again, no disrespect to 400 guys, I wish them the best of luck. As a last note, this is the street performance section not race. All of my comments/views are probably wrong for a race car. Have a nice day !!!

Yes, you certainly do, but you have no respect for other members and their opinions. I thought that there was an age limit to be a member and post here. Oh well, I bored with this. I'm going to the garage!

2nd amendment is WAY better.
Tom, EXCELLENT POINT !!! G-Man. I'm not much into Rod's either, but I liked Gray because he reminded you of the uncle you always wanted to have, but never did. You know, the one that was around in the gasser days, and when fuelers had the engine in front of the driver, and always had great stories about "the good ol' days". Now a '39-'41 Willys coupe set up like an old gasser makes my shorts fit tight every time.

I've never been into street rods either,or crotch rockets,or rice burners,in fact, can't stand the 3. But like a good friend of mine pointed out one time when I was dogging out the rice burner crowd sitting in a parking lot one day,"to each his own" and I respect that. I have things I am sure noone gives a rats ass about. But I won't dog them out,as I am sure they worked hard for what they have, and I don't like to hurt anyones feelings. Now I have seen a street rod, that looked tough. The ones I can't stand are the little, two door, topless,no fenders kind. the pic that was posted of the rod is cool,I don't mind those kinds. As for the namecalling, trophy winning comments. freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, but is this what pontiacers act like?!?!

Lil' Ricky, consider yourself corrected, you're wrong. But then again, you knew that a long time ago. LOL
You need skills to beat me.Brian, I never connected with Gray the way some members did. I hardly ever read anything he wrote. It just never appealed to me. |

NickV, I'll be buried in my car. I like my Kidney's in poor shape from alcohol, not from riding in cars. How did you get Lil' Ricky to pose in the passenger seat like that? [ June 01, 2002, 09:02 AM: Message edited by: Goatman ] |
