lol, so now I'm public enemy number one with wives for bringing up this idea? Luckily, I have a fiance and not a wife...fiances tend to let you get away with more stuff. Unfortunately, we don't even have a dishwasher in the kitchen, so I can't even try this method out for myself yet!

I have not cleaned parts as such but many many times I have put tools in the silverware basket.

Does a great job on sockets, wrenchs and screwdrivers.

I am surprised no one has brought up the environmental concern regarding rinsing all that sludge down the sewer.

I have an NOS 303 short deck intake that I bought about 16 years ago. It was in beautiful shape but was full of dust and cobwebs. I stuck it in the dishwasher, put in some Cascade, set the dial to the pots & pan cycle and let 'er rip. My girlfriend at the time thought it was gross.

The manifold came out beautifully. To this day it remains my favorite paperweight.

Hmmmm... I did forget the jet dry, come to think of it! Next time!

One suggestion for type of DW - you might look for a "Hobart" brand restaurant type dishwasher. These things are brutal, though - they are designed to sterilize anything you put on a plate or silverware in 5 minutes flat. So, it may be a bit rough on interior parts with chrome or paint.

These things are very expensive when new, but you can always find used ones at restaurant supply places or when a restaurant closes. Can also look for a beer cooler too to keep the dishwasher company!

Way to go, Catalina Dave, you are my kind of a car guy to get a dishwasher for car parts before dishes. Enjoy the non-married life while you can.

one thing to remember guys.

running this stuff down a city sewer may not be so bad but i wouldn't run it thru a septic system as it will cause it to fail quicker. the residue can't be good for the bacteria that helps decompose the sewage waste.

of course if you have a seperate drain that doesn't run tru the septic............

I agree mike. This goes along the lines of don't dump oil in the grass next to your well. Which in most cases if you have a septic you most likely have a well.

LOL, DIE HARD car nuts...Soak your parts in greased lighting first then put them in the dishwasher, it will remove the toughest gunk you can find. I thought I was the only lunatic, lol Anthony

Anthony, where does yours drain to? City sewer or septic system? Ever get any clogs from all the grease? Good idea to presoak the parts, BTW, hadn't thought of that, as obvious as it seems.
