My impact wouldn't break it loose Joe. I don't have the most powerful impact but it usually does everything I ask it to do. The timing cover and water pump leaks had been repaired previously and very poorly--that's one of the reasons I'm concerned. Thanks for your response though!

I've had that same problem. All I had to do was grab the impact socket while running the impact wrench, and give it that last little bit of tourque by turning it with my hand. If you're lucky, that's all it will take!

Put some gloves on when you do it in case the socket blows apart.

Put a crow bar through on of the holes in the flywheel or a pair of visegrips on the flywheel.
Put a inpact or a good 6 point socket on a breaker bar with a 2 or 3 foot piece of pipe on the breaker bar.
Stand behind the front tire in case it lets go the tire will protect your feet and the pipe- breaker bar will keep your face out of there!
Its crude but it works.

Make sure your not using an extension cord. The more cord you got the less power the impact wrench has.

Give me a thumbs up, tell me "Nice Car!", but for god's sake, don't call it an Impala.

Thanks for the additional ideas gentleman! I went the route of vise-grips on the flywheel and it worked instantly. Everyone has been absolutely great with answers to my mundane questios. I hope I can reciprocate.
