I have a 67 Catalina and when I rev the engine the voltmeter looks like a tachometer(needle swings towards the charge side then back to the center when rpms reach idle.)when I cut the lights on, the needle drops a little and when I cut the heater on it drops a little more.I put 3 new ground straps in the engine bay. One on each side from the heads to the shock tower, and one on the right rear head to the fire wall.I also got a new battery, altenator, and voltage regulator. What is the deal?

Some of that is normal until the car or battery gets a full charge. After 10 minutes of driving it should be pretty steady. That guage is pretty sensitive pulling on headlites will drop mine also. You can have your alt checked for free at parts store to see what it is really doing. Personally I like the built in regulator a lot better .
