My 70 GTO rocker panel height is 8" front and 9" rear, even on both sides. Shop manual says height should be 9.6" front/9.1" rear. I never replaced the springs, so it's probably time to. Tires a 225 70R14, on 14x6 wheels. Recent install of headers are giving me only about 3" clearance.
I guess I need to do 2 things-put new coil springs in and get a taller tire (or wheel/tire combo).

What's a good source for coil spring purchase? I saw some pretty big price differences between Original Parts Group and Year One alone.

Any recommendations on a good tire/wheel combo that will get me the right height? I prefer to keep the 14x 6 wheels, since they're redone, but can get a set of 15 x 7's, I think.

If you want to be sure about a specific ride height I would suggest to spend a few more $$ and get some coils from Coil Spring Specialties

Give them the vehicle, options and desired ride height as the factory measured it (rocker to ground)

after swapping out a couple different sets front & back, I finally decided on a set of "firm ride" moog springs through amesperf for the rear.......& put a set of stock replacement moog for 70 gto with a/c for front. I was told since I do not have a/c ,this will give me about 1/2 inch over stock height. for tires I am running 15 x 7"s with 235-60 series. I am very pleased with the stance. good luck with your choice...BTW @ rocker front 11 inches....@ rocker rear 11 - 1/4 inches

moog or trw are good products.

the last set i bought were custom rate and hieght so i had coil spring specialties wind them for me.

my 65 sits good so i'm gonna leave them alone.

Advance Auto carries many replacement TRW springs.

I took your info and ordered the same for my 70 GTO, put them on today. Great service from AMES. Big improvement on my car, looks better and gave me another 2.5-3" clearance and handles much much better. Really like your paint job, where did you get it and what is the paint info? With my blk interior, I may look to go that color next paint job in a few years,

thanks for nice response clubber I have sprayed both base coat/clear coat to the tune of about 400 units per shift, for 16 years @ twin cities assembly. (ford ranger)except for pro rebuild of original motor, I restored entire car @ home. I think there are better silver shades than mine, but this was available @ heavey discount thru a friend @ work. it is code "yn"(ford color ) titanium. dupont chromobase/dupont 7500 clearcoat.

400 units per shift?? You spray 400 Fords a day?

yes jyd, that is 425 or so per shift.......2 shifts of 10 hours, knocks out about 800+ truck a day. 52 or so per hour down the main line. most painting is done with automation these days. presently only inside door jambs & applying some extra paint over sanded areas prior are manual, with robotics soon to be their also. the repair line is where I spend most of my time these days painting dso (dealer special order colors), this is an older line which moves slower where a repair unit is masked except panal to be repainted. it is mostly automated now as well.
