ok here it is---have a 67 gto, found on a farm near me. it was dumped there in the early 70s, it sat in the fence row for 5 years and then taken home. they contacted the state dmv to see if it was stolen, it wasnt but they were issued replacement tags for it. the car is in very good condition. when i got it home i buffed it out,the paint still shines. it has only 2 dents in it, one on the hood about the size of a half dollar and a smaller one on the top. the sides are straight as an arrow. the interior is very good. replaced the dash pad everything else is good. i replaced all the hoses and waterpump and everything else external, the engine just "purrs" , it also drives very nice, the odometer shows 19200 miles. not sure if correct but if you can go by the seats it is close to correct(they look almost new)NOW THE BAD--- the trunck pan needs replacing and the windshield has a crack, thats it. Do i restore it or do i leave it alone? i already have a #1 show car so i dont need another. i just want to do what is best for this historic vehicle. Please give me your opinions they are greatly needed.

I would fix the trunk and the windshield then drive and enjoy it. Sounds ok like it is.

That's a tough call, but I'd say go ahead and restore it. There's not much inherent historical value in a 20000 mile car with a rusty trunk, IMO.

Frankly, it sounds like the perfect car to turn into a "driver". Replace the trunk pan, install a new windsheild, and start cruisin'!

Replace the windshield.
Change the oil (ah yea) antifreeze, brake fluid.
New tires.
Get the state inspection.
Drive it to work the bugs out

You've got yourself a great find. To restore or not is a personal (as well as financial) decision. If you decide not to restore, I would certainly maintain/protect it to keep it in its present state. Sure beats the twisted/rusted wreckage I saved from the crusher!!!!!!

When you mentioned "replacement tags", did you mean the VIN? If so, it will really hurt the (resale) value if restored, so I say make a driver out of it.

Get the trunk floor fixed (and make sure it's not rusted because of a leaky rear window), replace the windshield, and find one of those paintless dent repair places to fix the dents in the hood and roof. Then drive it. It doesn't sound like it needs a total restoration at this point, anyway.

400 4spd--unfortunately i did mean the vin tags. we assume that the car had its tags removed then left in the field. somewhere there is a clone with my tags on it. i was wondering now that i have replacement tags on this one is it considered a clone also? anyway it is a blast to drive(a little over the limit sometimes). thanks to all who have responded. leaning towards leaving it the way it is and just driving it like i stole it.
