Just an update. Installed a Rodney Red radiator(purchased through PY), 160* thermostat and braided lines. Car is now consistently around 160-175* running temperature. Aside from getting some of those braided lines on, the installation was a breeze.

Here are a pic of the installation.

Are you running without a full fan shroud ? I am considering going with RR rad. and keeping my fan guard only. Looks great.

I tried it also without. It was O.K. in the spring. But once it get's hot, you will need the shroud.

I have been struggling with idle temps for some time now. I noticed that my fan does not really stick "in" to the shroud. I decided to try a spacer to get the fan into the shroud. Only spacer I could find that day was 1 1/2 inches. So I put that on and had to take the shroud off. (wouldn't fit with the 1 1/2 spacer) My fan is now around 2" from the radiator instead of 3 1/2". It seems like there is more air getting sucked thru the grill. I put a towel in front of the grill before and after to get an idea. I will see what happens as the weahter gets warmer and report back.

By the way I have a Rodney Red and a cast impeller with the appropriate clearance.

Bob

Rugratman-
My car did not come with a fan shroud. Did you attach a stock fan shroud to the RR? Or, did you have to "shim" it like Bob J, adding a spacer to get the fan inside the shroud?

With 160* thermostat, I am idling around 175 and am expecting around 200 idle temp in the summer without the shroud.

I am running the RR, I have the cast impellor water pump, and the 1 1/2 inch spacer. I do agree that the closer the fan is to the rad the better. I also run a 160 degree thermostat. Normally the car runs about 180. However when it get's hot...90 degrees + she would start climbing up. The shroud, and I sealed it up, really brought down and stabilized the temps. I even tried one of the half moon chrome shrouds, but it kept heating up. The stock shroud will mount to the core supprt, not the Rad. If Jerry built it right it will fit like a glove. You can't hurt trying it without the shroud, I agree it looks better with out it. Mine just alway's seemed to heat up at the perfect wrong time.
I should also mention, that my fan is the biggest that I could find, and I have it about 3/4's of the way into the shroud. With no spacer, it was hardley pulling any air.

I went with the dual 12 inch fans. I hope this works well.

GTOMazz-
Keep us posted on this thread. That looks like a great setup and I am interested to know how well it turns out for you.
