My engine doesn't have a breather on the valve covers. Should I install one (or two) and what are the benefits? (please pardon my ignorance - it's my first project car)

Valvecover breathers are MANDATORY for fresh gapless ring engines, like the TOTAL-SEAL rings.

Dual breathers are darn useful for a tired engine, capable of crankcase clouding blowby.

Dual breathers seem darn practical compared to a corked, unvented, unevacuated crankcase...this one is moot because it will vent itself after the first exposure to enthusiastic acceleration. A popped dipstick is a clue of bigger things to come.

A single Breather is darn pratical to complement the PCV system....now a source of ping inducement.

Intriging alternative is a crankcase Evacuation system...keeps ping down while upping the relative piston push for power.

I've got edelbrock valve covers on my 400. The breathers have a rubber grommet that doesn't have any hole in it. My question is , am I supposed to put a hole in the grommett, cause I don't see what good they do if the rubber grommet plugs up the hole. i do have a pcv bvalve in the valley pan.
