The threaded post connection on my alternator became loose on the inside and it stopped working. What could have caused this?

I opened up the case and the weld was broken and there was spark marks around the weld. It looks like a new alternator is in order. This one lasted a year and less than a thousand miles. Oh well.

Sounds like a good excuse for buying the fancy chrome one from Summit.
